The company was initially enthusiastic about the game, according to San, with Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto expressing particular fascination with the project. Despite this enthusiastic response, Nintendo ultimately rejected Argonaut for unspecified reasons, ending the relationship between the two companies that had begun with the development of Star Fox, and prompting Argonaut to find another publisher to finance and publish the game. According to Jez San, the prototype of Yoshi Racing that Argonaut had initially pitched to Nintendo was a large influence towards the creation and development of Super Mario 6.
